Thales de Miranda is an International lawyer focused in Oil & Gas Contracts and Arbitrator. Based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he leads a team of Oil & Gas experts focused in small and medium-sized International Oil Companies seeking to invest in Brazil. As a senior global lawyer having practiced in most of South America, North America, Africa, Europe, China and in the Middle East, his M&A-related due diligences focus has enabled his clients to accomplish significant acquisitions and implementation of successful take overs.
In his previous roles as International Legal Department Manager in a major Oil & Gas company he coordinated a global team of international legal negotiators of Oil & Gas Granting Instruments, Services Contracts, FOAs, JOAs, JBSAs and related E&P agreements, providing proactive legal analisys and advice to the main commercial negociators of worldwide energy contracts.
Previous roles include being na in-house lawyer for Petrobras, Braspetro and other subsidiaries of the group where he led medium to large teams of lawyers with a strong culture of collaboration, corporate client experience, innovation and risk management. He participated in high impact projects including mergers and acquisitoins, management of international litigation and the development of a new application to enhance the controlo f international litigation for Petrobras.
He left Petrobras to join MMA, Mello, Miranda, Travassos & Buschmann, in association with a major American Law firm where, together with multijurisdictional global teams he advised transnational energy projects including the structuring of a major EPC Project.
After leaving MMA, he has created his own legal firm where he has been advising clients since 2016.
Thales graduated in Law from the Pontificial Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-RJ). He obtained na LLm in International Trade Law from PUC-RJ, an MBA for E&P Assets Administration from the Brazilian Oil & Gas Institute (IBP) and an MBA in People Management from Fundação Dom Cabral (FDC). He has also frequented a Masters in Constitutional Law from PUC-RJ and a Masters in International Law at the University of the state of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), but did not finish both courses due to other commitments.
He is a member of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), where he takes part in a mentoring program to help Young lawyers start at the profession. He is also a member of the IAB, the Institute of Brazilian Attorneys, where he held several directory-level positions.
He is an advocate for intercultural understanding and foster and the spirit of diversity across different cultures. He believes in diversity and multicultural inclusion and is open to actively participate as volunteer in initiatives relating to humanitarian relief projects in conflict areas to increase global awareness concerning war refugees and further connecting corporations to global solutions concerning their situation.He is fluent in English, German and Spanish, bessides his Portuguese mother tongue.
